Target Tuesday

Intent

At River Tees Hospital School, Target Tuesday is a dedicated initiative designed to engage pupils in meaningful weekly conversations about their personal development outcomes. This programme focuses on reviewing and discussing targets identified in each pupil’s Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) or created based on their specific Special Educational Needs (SEN) following their time at our school.

The intent of Target Tuesday is to empower pupils to take ownership of their learning journey by actively participating in the goal-setting process. By fostering open dialogue, we aim to ensure that each pupil understands their objectives and feels supported in achieving them. This initiative not only enhances their personal development but also builds their confidence and self-awareness as they navigate their educational paths.

Through these regular discussions, we provide tailored support that addresses the unique needs of each pupil, helping them to make progress and reach their full potential. Target Tuesday is an integral part of our commitment to holistic education, ensuring that every pupil is equipped with the tools they need for future success.

Here’s why these conversations are important:

Weekly check-ins allow for real-time monitoring of how well the pupil is progressing with their personal development. This ensures that any issues or challenges are identified early, and adjustments can be made promptly to improve outcomes.

By having regular discussions, staff can better understand how the pupil is feeling about the support they’re receiving and whether it meets their unique needs. This helps create a more personalised approach.

Frequent conversations foster a sense of trust between the pupil and the teacher/support staff. The pupil feels that their voice is heard, and they have a platform to express concerns or share what’s working well for them.

These regular check-ins encourage pupils to become more aware of their own needs and take an active role in their learning process. It helps them understand how to communicate their needs and reflect on their progress, fostering greater independence over time.

Sometimes a plan might need tweaking. Weekly conversations give both the pupil and staff a chance to discuss whether the current strategies are working or if new methods should be tried.

Seeing tangible results or small improvements in their progress can motivate pupils, especially when their efforts are recognised. Frequent feedback helps them stay focused on their goals and encourages them to keep working towards success.

These discussions can also involve parents or other support staff, making the process more collaborative. This ensures that all involved parties are on the same page and can provide the pupil with consistent and coordinated support.

In summary, weekly conversations about outcomes ensure that pupils receive the right kind of support at the right time, while also empowering them to take an active role in their educational journey.
