At River Tees Hospital School, we are proud to introduce AV1, an innovative robot avatar designed to act as a child’s eyes, ears, and voice in the classroom when illness, disability, or mental health conditions prevent them from attending in person.
AV1 is an app-linked device equipped with a camera, speaker, and microphone, creating a two-way audio and one-way visual connection between the student and their classmates. This technology allows pupils to learn alongside their peers and maintain social interactions with friends without the pressure of appearing on camera, which can often be a source of anxiety or discomfort.
Standing at just 30cm tall and weighing 1.5kg, AV1 is compact enough to sit neatly on a desk or be easily carried by friends during breaktime or between lessons. Its two motors enable it to raise and lower its head or rotate 360º, providing the pupil with a full view of the classroom environment. With both 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, AV1 can operate seamlessly both indoors and outdoors.
By integrating AV1 into our educational framework, we ensure that every child can engage, learn, and connect, regardless of their circumstances.
