School Expectations

River Tees Hospital School is a unique specialist provision in the North East of England, proudly offering education to pupils aged 5 to 18. This broad age range fosters positive role models among older pupils and cultivates a mature, aspirational ethos where hard work, resilience and high achievement are the norm.

Equipment for Learning

To empower pupils to take ownership of their learning, it is essential they have the right equipment. The school provides all pupils with the necessary stationary before admission to ensure they can fully access their personalised curriculum from day one.

Mobile Phone and Electronic Devices

Mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches and electronic music players can disrupt learning and the school environment. Therefore, pupils are expected to either leave these devices at home or hand them in to a member of staff upon arrival. Each pupil is given a sealed, individual plastic wallet to securely store their personal belongings throughout the school day, ensuring safety and minimising distractions.

Standards of Behaviour

We expect all pupils to demonstrate exemplary behaviour, showing tolerance, kindness and respect to everyone in our school community. Our approach is grounded in relational behaviour principles, recognising that behaviour is a form of communication and that positive relationships are key to success.

Behaviour for Learning

We believe that positive behaviour support is built on strong partnerships between school and parents/carers. When this message is shared and reinforced at home, pupils develop a positive attitude towards their learning, leading to greater engagement and achievement.

Positive Behaviour Support

Please refer to our Relational Behaviour Policy for a detailed overview of our behaviour expectations and the graduated process of support and intervention. Our approach focuses on understanding individual needs, promoting co-regulation, and using restorative practises to help pupils learn from their choices and grow into resilient, responsible adults.
