Humanities

At River Tees Hospital School, our Humanities curriculum is designed to provide pupils in KS3 with a comprehensive understanding of the world around them. We believe that studying subjects such as History, Geography, and Religious Education is essential for fostering critical thinking, empathy, and a sense of global citizenship, especially for pupils with complex medical needs.

Our curriculum aims to inspire curiosity and engagement by exploring diverse cultures, historical events, and geographical concepts. We recognise that pupils may face unique challenges in their learning journeys, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive. Through carefully selected content, we ensure that our lessons are accessible and relevant, allowing pupils to connect their learning to their own experiences and surroundings.

In History, pupils will explore significant events and figures, developing an understanding of how the past shapes the present. We emphasise the importance of storytelling, encouraging pupils to engage with narratives that resonate with them and foster a deeper appreciation for different perspectives.

In Geography, pupils will learn about the physical and human aspects of the world, gaining insights into various environments and cultures. Our approach encourages pupils to think critically about global issues, fostering awareness of sustainability and the interconnectedness of communities.

Religious Education provides pupils with the opportunity to explore beliefs, values, and practises from various cultures, promoting understanding and respect for diversity. We aim to create a safe space for discussion, allowing pupils to express their thoughts and questions openly.

Through our Humanities curriculum, we strive to cultivate informed, compassionate individuals who are equipped to navigate the complexities of the world. By fostering a love for learning and encouraging critical inquiry, we aim to empower our pupils to become active participants in their communities and beyond.
